Absolute Monarch?
Philip II of Spain started out as the powerful king of the Netherlands. After his reign in the Netherlands ended, Philip moved on to become the great king of Spain. Philip was described as an Absolute Monarch, but he had faced many constitutional constraints on his authority. As he practiced, Philip was often overruled by local assemblies, and had less power than that of local lords. Philip was one of the first absolute monarchs in Spain. Philip strived to make Spain the center of authority and centralizing control. He was looked up to as a king during his reign, but this soon came to an end. The practice of Absolute Monarchy ultimately failed, and it wasn't practiced by Spain again.
